Dallas is the New L.A.?

So….  I moved to Georgia from Dallas a few months ago.

I love Dallas but things just weren’t really working out. I loved the trendy area that I lived in, but a job I took turned out….not so great….and I also wanted to spend time with my long-lost family.

About a month after I moved away, I got a call from one of my closest friends.

And apparently she’s hanging out in Victory Park (the new scene). Her roommate ran into Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz at my usual Starbucks  (Ashlee’s supa skinny, she says).

Last night on Perezhilton.com, I notice a picture of  Paris Hilton with some kids I know. I went to school with them. Paris endorsed their band at the Ghostbar and on her blog. Why are all these celebs in Dallas now that I’m gone?! Ok, it’s not that big of a deal (weirdly enough, I saw a girl that I went to school with on some gameshow on NBC tonight, too).

It seems like Dallas is cool now, but it  felt  SO EIGHTIES when I was there!! I kid you NOT! The boys had shaggy brown hair and wore loafers with no socks and upturned collars (think Blaine from Pretty in Pink)….. (seriously).

Image and video hosting by TinyPicThe girls wore pearl earrings and had swoop bangs. Too preppy and very new-money Reagan 80’s style.  I hear that’s really changing. West Village is out, Victory Park is in. I think the Deep Ellum hipsters are merging with the postgrad SMU preps to create some kind of a trendy superhuman partier.

So anyway, Roswell (the suburb of Atlanta) is a homogeneous suburb north of Atlanta. It’s also known “the whitest  @#$%^&ing town in America” by comedian David Cross. It’s home to Paul Newman and Usher..It feels like a Southern version of Colorado (more Jeeps than BMWs).

I’m sure I’ll find things to do out here, but until then, it’s back to Barnes and Nobles for me.

I guess from now on I’ll be hiking at Vickery Creek Dam instead of hanging out at Victory Park. I’m glad, because I love the scenery out here. It’s gorgeous. It really is.

I love Dallas too, but I think I like Industrial Boulvard and the grassy knoll better than the nightlife and “scenes.” There’s just something about the gritty heart of the city…..

By the way, I started this blog so I could start writing again.
